Day 1

Welcome to Nagaland

After a warm welcome at the airport, begin your journey into the remote forests of Nagaland. Enter the hills and feel the air cool around you as you venture deeper into the greenery. Your first stop is the village of Kiruphema. Your homestay hosts and a village Elder will greet you and introduce you to your first taste of Naga hospitality. The Elder will entrust you with their wisdom of the lands and culture. After, work with the local blacksmith and share a meal with the villagers, enjoying the simplicity of these lands.

Day 2

Locations: Kiruphema / Secunoma / Mezoma / Khonoma

Walk in the Footsteps of the Naga

After a locally-made breakfast, bid farewell to your new friends and begin your hike from Kiruphema village to Sechuma village. This 3-hour moderate hike takes you through the uneven gradient of the region. Enjoy the views and clean forest air as you walk in the footsteps of the Naga. Arrive in Sechuma village for a traditional lunch with a local family before continuing to Khonoma. Along the way, you will visit the megalith culture at Mezoma and see the beautiful forest cover and breathtaking views of the terraced fields. End the day with a delicious meal before retiring.

Day 3

Village Life in Khonoma

Today you will explore India’s first Green village, Khonoma. This pioneer village protects the diverse forest that stretches out around it. Become captivated by these pristine lands and the creatures that call it home. Then, tour the village buildings as you listen to stories of warriors and the struggles of the Angamis against the British Army. Join local craftsmen who make cane baskets and the women weavers as you interact with the friendly villagers. Explore the Khonoma Nature Conservation & Tragopan Sanctuary or take a nature walk through the organic farming area. On arriving at your homestay, you may join your host in cooking dinner and learn about traditional Naga food.

Day 4

Locations: Khonoma / Kohima
Transport detail: 20KMs / 1 hour


History and Flavours of Nagaland

Start your morning helping the locals fetch drinking water, carry firewood and feed cattle OR visit the school and interact with the village students. Afterwards, you will be driven to Kohima to visit a local market and see various edible insects, worms, vegetables, and seasonal wild fruits. Tour the town’s landmarks and visit a private museum to learn about Nagaland during World War II. After lunch, travel to Kigwema, an ancestral village to many Angami Naga villages, and a refuge for the Japanese during the war. Visit the traditional houses and school, and learn to pound rice into wine.

Day 5

Locations: Kohima / Puliebadze / Kohima

The views of Mt Puliebadze

Today you will be hiking to Mt Puliebadze, named after a local Naga legend. It is believed that a man named Pulie got lost in the forest after killing a giant serpent and was taken by the spirits. Since then the mountain has played an important part in the local history. This moderate hike will take an hour for leisure hikers. At the top, you will be treated to lunch while enjoying the magnificent views from above. After your hike, you will visit Kisama village and learn about the many different tribes that make up Nagaland.

Final Moments in Nagaland
